What’s the difference between a quote and hourly rate?

A quotation is a written description of the job that will be performed as well as the price that will be charged. The price must account for all possibilities, including an estimate of how long the task will take to complete. Any additional expenditures spent as a result of something unexpected arising throughout the project's scope is the responsibility of the builder.

Additional costs may be charged to the client if the builder uncovers issues beyond the scope of the project that impact the completion of the work; however, this will be discussed with the client and, if agreed upon, added as a variation.

An hourly rate is a fixed fee for each hour that the agreed-upon activity is completed. Unlike a quote, the cost has no upper limit. The client is responsible for any additional costs incurred as a result of the job taking longer than expected.
